Sarah De Boer, MFT, LPC.
Sarah earned a Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary, where she gained a comprehensive understanding of Family Systems Theory.
She's a Licensed Professional Counselor who also works with the Harrisonburg League of Therapists as a lead intensive in-home therapist and intake coordinator. She counsels individuals, children, adolescents and their families, and coordinates with community services and referrals.
Sarah has also led premarital classes on the topic of communication and participated in a parenting conference leading a workshop on creating an emotionally safe home. She's a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, a certified trainer in the de-escalation program Therapeutic Options of Virginia, and the premarital assessment Prepare/Enrich.
Sarah is experienced in, and enjoys working with, adolescents, couples, families and individuals tackling a range of issues including: couple's communication and conflict, parenting skills, pre-marital counseling, grief and loss, co-dependency, sexual abuse, family of origin issues, behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, divorce and shame.
She desires to help her clients gain freedom and wholeness through a relationship that is unconditionally accepting, forgiving, safe, patient, and trustworthy. Jonelle A. Frost, M.A., Ed.S.
Jonelle earned her Master of Arts and Educational Specialist degrees in Community Agency Counseling from James Madison University in 2005, which is a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Jonelle received training in individual and group counseling theories and techniques, couple and family systems, substance abuse, career development, and multicultural perspectives.
Jonelle is a Counselor in Residence, pursuing her professional counseling license (LPC) in Virginia. She is also a part-time school counselor in Rockingham County Public Schools working with elementary students. Prior to this, Jonelle held the positions of Student Assistance Counselor for middle and high school students (2007-2010) and child and adolescent substance abuse therapist with Northwestern Community Services Board (2005-2007).
Jonelle is passionate and committed to working with children, adolescents, women across the lifespan, and those struggling with substance abuse. Though not specific areas of specialization, Jonelle has a draw toward the LGBTQ
population, multicultural issues, and career development. In counseling, she utilizes client-centered, interpersonal process, reality-based, solution-focused, behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Jonelle is honored to be included in her clients’ lives and stories. She views counseling as a partnership and process where clients feel safe to explore and learn about themselves and work through transitions to achieve their goals for change.

John Kuebler, MDiv, MA, LPC, LMFT
John is an Associate Pastor for Counseling Ministries at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was an Associate Pastor for 13 years at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville prior to his move to the Valley. In 1986 John was the co-founder of a Christian counseling center in Jackson, MS, where he also received his counseling and divinity degrees at Reformed Theological Seminary.
Prior to entering the counseling and clergy professions John was in law enforcement for 15 years as a jail officer, road patrol officer, a sergeant, as well as a detective investigating child abuse. John started the police chaplaincy program for the City of Charlottesville Police and has helped the Albemarle County Police begin their own program.
John is a Virginia Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, NationalCertified Counselor, and a clinical member of AAMFT for 20+ years. He serves as the Licensed Supervisor for Journey's counselors-in-residence who are pursuing LMFT or LPC licensure. Karen Montgomery, MSW
Karen received her Masters in Social Work from Syracuse University in 1984 in Family Systems. She has worked in the leadership of the lay counseling ministry at her church for over 20 years. Karen believes that suffering and difficulties are not wasted in God's economy, and can be opportunities for wisdom, growth in the health of our relationships, and times to find deeper sources of strength and hope.
Karen counts it a privilege to work with individuals and families during times of confusion and pain. Karen has been married to her husband, Greg, for over 30 years. Charles Shepard, MA MFT
Charles earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary. He bases his therapeutic understanding in Family Systems Theory.
Charles is a Counselor in Residence, pursuing his professional counseling license (LPC) in Virginia. He also works for the Harrisonburg League of Therapists as a lead intensive in-home therapist. He works with individuals and couples in all stages of life, from children to grandparents. His great passion is to strengthen men to be leaders in the Body of Christ, whether it be in the home, the community or the Church universal.
He is experienced and enjoys working with men around sexuality-related topics such as compulsive behaviors and sexual identity.
He has taught interactive seminars on couple and marital enrichment.
Charles and his wife are charter members of Holy Cross, PCA, in his hometown of Staunton. They love to play and can often be spotted swimming in open water, pedaling their bikes to the top of Reddish Knob, or running long distances around the Valley in training for their next event. Lisa Rhodes-Strickler, BSW
Lisa earned her Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) from James Madison University in 1996. She received training in the Generalist Perspective Theory and Social Systems Theory. This education taught her to constantly assess a person's strengths and weaknesses, how to help people wanting help, and various counseling techniques.
Prior to receiving her BSW, Lisa worked in human relations with a local poultry grow-out company serving as a liaison, advocate for growers. For 15 years, Lisa attended Friedens UCC where she worked extensively with youth, served in leadership roles, and helped begin and head a preschool program.
After completing her social work degree, Lisa worked for 10 years with Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board providing mental health services for adults living with chronic mental illness and substance abuse. She's currently engaged in the helping profession encompassing various situations and positions.
