Why Counseling? Why Journey?

Our intern, Alicia Burns, shares about why she is becoming a counselor and how she became connected to Journey. We are grateful to have her!

When I think about why I am becoming a counselor, I believe it is because everything in my life until now has been pointing me in this direction – especially the Lord! One of the things that has always moved me is seeing something broken get fixed. I love seeing things move from rupture and heartache to the beauty that can come beyond the brokenness. And I personally know what it feels like to experience new life when the Lord provides people to come alongside in times of sorrow. This is why I want to be a counselor – to provide a safe space for people to explore the difficulties of life and to be with them as they learn who God has created them to be.

Many years ago, I was asked by our dear friend, John Kuebler, to serve on the Board of Directors of Journey, and I was able to serve in that position for two years. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this ministry! When it was time for me to find a site for practicum and internship, this was where I wanted to be. It feels like I am coming full circle in getting to work for Journey Counseling Ministries, and I am thrilled to join their team.
